We left Juneau early spring 2023 and headed for Hoonah for a haul‑out. We needed bottom paint and new zincs, and since this was our second time hauling out there, we knew the drill and brought almost everything we needed. We had tarps, ladders, tools — the whole setup. We didn’t buy paint ahead of time, but picked it up from Greg, one of our favorite Hoonah people. This haulout was the start of our first proper cruising summer. A momentous event after years of working on Sundew.
The projects were straightforward. We sanded the entire bottom, repaired a few small fiberglass cracks and topside damage, and fixed a handful of blisters. It was a short five‑day haul‑out, just enough time to get the boat cleaned up, painted, and ready for the season.
As soon as we splashed back in, we headed out cruising. First stop: Glacier Bay National Park.
